Galaxy S24

Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

I've literally done the same. Upgraded from my s10+ to s24 ultra and the colours are really dull šŸ˜‘  I've been playing around with it for ages but can't work out how to make it better. The s10+ colours are so much more sharper and more vivid.

Looks like with the AOD it's a small double tap to show time. My screen stays dim when I double tap but could be because I'm on dark mode?

You can set it to only appear with a tap but I prefer it on all the time so i can just glance at night,  but either way it's brightness seems to be proportional to whatever the main screen brightness is set to.

There is a 3rd party app called Day Night Clock in the Play Store.

Do you know if that will work on the Tab S9 Ultra? Tab S9 Ultra needs an always on display and I don't mind using a 3rd party app to get it.

I don't know.
You can enable Daily Board on the Tab S9 !

Go to settings, type in the search box Daily Board.

Exactly have the same problem. I've upgraded from Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and noticed several downgrades.. AOD brightness setting is missing, AOD notifications icons without color. I can't change the size of icons to smaller ones on the home screen. The look of the screen brightness, sharpness of the icon coloros and overall look is much worse than on previous phone. Gestures changed a little in a way that is much harder going back to home screen which is annoying. The new features such as utilizing AI in translation or chat mode are limited only to few languages, so if you're not English speaker who wants to translate Chinese language than it's not much useful feature. Sometimes I think that the big companies like Samsung, Apple, Microsoft and similar are selling us only empty and fancy words about their products, but in reality they laugh at as of how much stupid people are to buy all this **bleep** stripped of accessories "better"products for higher prices. I'm thinking about returning the phone, it's not worth the money I've paid for it.

I have a note 20 ultra as well and returned the s24 plus for the same reasons you stated. I also like my colored notification icons on the lock screen. The colors on the s24 plus were really dull.

I've noticed the same thing!! Can't brighten my AOD or use a picture from my phone!! I had the Note 20 and always had my AOD on full brightness, now it only gives us dull and unable to be seen pictures to use! Alos they for some reason connected the lock screen to the AOD screen!! I wonder who the idiots were when they decided to eliminate these features and thought loyal samsung customers would b happy about it!! SMFH!!!

Yeah it sucks. I used to have my fav photo as my AOD... Way to be Apple clones Samsung SMH. Returning my S24+ that I bought today lol. Loving my OnePlus 12 though. With totally customizable AOD. Better than the S24+ in all ways. Oh well. See ya Samsung.
