Galaxy S24Why would Samsung do this to us? Short answer: so that Samsung does not have to create their own operating system, that would support only a few apps at the time of launch and ultimately hurt their sales, and their standing as the #1 seller of Android phones.
Long Answer: Google owns Anroid, and is free to make whatever stipulations they want to any company who wants to have Android on their devices. They recently rolled out an ad campaign that stated that Apple and Android can now communicate with each other. Samsung messages does NOT play well with Apple, because Apple looked at the industry standard for text messaging, and made the irresponsible decision to prevent family members on different devices not able to communicate properly by choosing to go against the industry standard. TO keep that add correct, as it only mentions Android, not specifically Google Pixels, they dictated this change to all of their device creator partners, including, but not limited to, Samsung. They dictated other changes as well, most of which can be found here as complaint posts about how Samsung did them wrong.
If Samsung wants an Operating System that has a library of apps comparable to Apple's, then they have to use what is already on the table, Android. If they decided to change to a different OS, they would have to develop it in secret, and get app developers on board that are okay with not releasing their software until Samsun has enough app support to actually compete with BOTH Apple and Google, or they will be driven out of the market.
