My fall detection does not work. Galaxy 7
Model SM-L300NZGAXAA
Everything turned on, all updates current. I fell broke both knees. We tried several tests today. We put watch on a young adult and had her fall 3 times threw it on the ground twice pretty hard with zero detections. The watch is 45 days old and replaced another that also did not work.
Anyone have suggestions?

Do you have the setting set to detect falls always or only during workouts? If it's set to detect only during workouts, it won't detect the fall if a workout is not detected.

Had the same issue. It's the setting to detect always, and it works great after that. Sadly, Samsung custom support/reps and carrier store employees don't get adequately trained on options especially for accessories like watches. They will agree with you that's broken and return it and then you'll have the same issue with a new one.

For some odd reason, the default is to detect falls only during workouts (which is dumb), and if one does not know to go in and check/change the setting, it could be disastrous (as was with the OP).  The watches are sold and advertised with fall detection as a feature, but no one tells anyone that they have to configure it.  One usually discovers the setting by exploring their new watch's settings (or someone tells them about it); so, people buy the watches for the specific reason of fall detection and then think it doesn't work.  At the very least, the default setting should be "always" and let those who only want it during workouts to set it that way.  The ideal thing would be to set it for always and not have the option to change it.

You also have to make sure that in the settings, you set a delay before calling emergency number or contacts in case it's a false alarm.  I just bent over the sink to brush my teeth and my watch vibrated with the hard fall detected.  Fortunately, I put in a 20 second delay before dialing, so I had time to turn it off.  No one needs 911 called for frequent false alarms.  I don't know how often false alarms are generated, as I just switch the setting from "during workouts" to "always" the other night.
