The source of my tv signal is the cable  plugged into the ethernet port and going to my modem.

The Source setting doesn't include direct wiring.
Apparently the TV goes to the selected Source looking for a signal. Valid Options are Hdmi1, A/V, and Screen Mirroring. Nothing about connections to the ethernet port.
The result is an error message saying "No Signal" when the tv is turned on.
How can I set the Source to the ethernet port?

If a work-around qualifies as a solution, you nailed it.

I'd still prefer to go straight Ethernet, but perhaps they hadn't worked out all the angles in 2014 when this set was put together.

Thanks for your idea.

I spent an hour on the internet looking for a RJ45 to Hdmi connector. Those keyword bring back a lot of results, but they're all meant as Ethernet extenders. They won't work for my needs.
A great idea. If you find something that works, let me know.

"The source of my tv signal is the cable  plugged into the ethernet port and going to my modem."

What service is this?

It sounds like you need a set top box to decode the Ethernet traffic into something a TV could use.

Actually the TV handles the Ethernet and breaks down the signal with its own tuner.

This TV is old, but not that old.

Thanks for your idea.
