URGENT HELP: Samsung PCIE NVME 512 GB drive not detected

Hi guys,

We need your urgent help with our drive Samsung PCIE NVME 512 GB.

We have very important files on our Lenovo Legion computer and everything was working fine but all of a sudden yesterday when we tried to turn ON the laptop it didn't find the first drive with OS and all the files on it (the secondary drive is fine but unfortunately with no files/backup on it).

We suspect it is due to Windows automatic DRIVERS/BIOS update.

So we checked the BIOS and we couldn't see the drive is not there.

We opened the laptop and removed the Samsung drive then connected it to an external "USB3.1 to PCI-e NVMe SSD enclosure" and connected it to another laptop but it is still not detected.

So far, we tried Samsung Magician and EaseUS Partition Master but it didn't work.

Anyone knows how we can recover our data?

Is there any trick, software, hardware soldering... that could help?

Please guys it is so important for us, we have 2 years of important files on it.

Edit: Guys please spare us comments like we didn't backup data. This was our deceased family member PC. So please don't judge or make any inappropriate remarks.

Well, not having a backup of important files is unfortunate and totally preventable.  However, this is a drive failure, and may not actually be a failure of the actual drive plate itself, but the drive electronics. Best Buy's Geek Squad may be able to diagnose which it is and help you recover some data, but they will not do a recovery if the drive is totally not working. If the drive itself is not fried/damaged, there are services that you can use that may be able to recover, but they are pricey, so it depends on how valuable that data is to you and whether it can be recreated.

Why do you have a secondary drive, if it wasn't intended to be a backup drive?

I always tell people to backup their data even if shoemaker's wife is always the worst shod...

Then Geek Squad should definitely be your first step.  They can diagnose if the whole SSD is bad or just the connecting electronics.  If there is any life left  in the electronics, they may be able to recover some data. They saved my stuff when my HD electronics failed and was able to transfer everything over to my new drive.  They will not go into in-depth recovery, though, if the drive is totally not functional.  You will have to do some research on data recovery services (be careful, though, as most of them you have to pay even if they can't recover anything, and they are expensive.)  SSDs have the advantage of just really being a microchip, so if the microchip is undamaged, recovery should be possible.  It was a little more difficult to recover data when HDs were actually disks.

Sorry about your losses. Under settings, make sure Selective Suspend Setting in Power Options is off and disable it. You can try Recuva or other recovery software. Yeah, or go to Geek squad and look into getting Microsoft one drive or Google drive for the future files. Again, sorry about your loss.

Unfortunately, This is an OEM Drive, due to this, none of the Samsung software like the Samsung Magician will support this drive in order to run normal diagnostics.

Even then, Samsung does not provide data recovery for any of the current consumer memory products.
For data recovery, you would contact a third party company or use a third party data recovery tool or service.

It is a genuine SAMSUNG drive with warranty until 2025. Why are you saying it is an EOM?

OEM just means original equipment mfr and means it came installed on the computer, not after market. However, I fail to see how that would preclude Samsung Magician from working with it. That usually comes preinstalled on computers with Samsung drives.

This is correct, OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer. For Samsung, there are two separate markets.

Samsung makes SSDs for normal consumers and OEM companies such as Dell, HP, Lenovo and etc.

However, OEM product carry their own custom firmware and warranty support from the OEM company or supplier who preinstalled the OEM product in your computer from the factory.

The Samsung Magician only supports Samsung Retail SSDs, not OEM products. Only the SSDs that you can purchase in retail packaging directly on Samsung website are supported.  

For Further reference, please read the Samsung Magician install guide, it will show all the supported models. If you drive is not on the list, then it is not supported.
