Hi,

About to upgrade to an Evo 870 from a four year old SSHD. The PC is an old Dell 580 MT which has a SATA II Motherboard & is set to IDE right now.

My question is, can I switch to AHCI AFTER the 870 is cloned, but before I swap the present drive out, or must the swap to AHCI be done BEFORE cloning?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Is there a compatible mode?
Keep the target outside
Use clonezilla

Thanks for the Reply.

The Evo would be outside attached via a SATA III to USB 3.0 cable

I was intending to use the Samsung Migration Software for the cloning - is there a reason that Clonezilla would be better?

Not sure what you mean by "compatible mode".

Ah, OK. I checked in BIOS & only ATA & AHCI are offered there.
