I need help downloading software update

Trying to download software update phone telling me I need to download a app on computor I tried the app and it shut the computer down saying it was a bad website

Hello cleanbean, thank you reaching out. Welcome to the Samsung community. I understand you are having issues downloading a software update on your phone that requires an app on your computer. LongHiker has provided the link to Samsung smart switch if needed. Here are the steps to update to a new software if one is available.
Step 1. Connect your device to your computer using the USB cable provided with your device. 
Step 2. Open Smart Switch on your PC. 
Step 3. If a software update is available, Smart Switch will automatically prompt you to update the software or display an option to update.
Step 4. Tap Update and follow the on-screen instructions to download the necessary files and complete the update process. 
You may check for software updates in your settings by going to Software update> download and install. You can check for security update in your settings by going to Biometrics and security> security updates.

If you're experiencing unusual behavior on Samsung mobiles, tablets or wearables, You can send us an error report or ask us a question in the Samsung Members app. 

Software updates are also rolled out by the carrier to the users, so reach out to them first. 

If the troubleshooting is not helpful, the phone will need to be evaluated by a certified technician. For service in the U.S., you can take the phone to a local U.S. walk-in service location https://www.ubreakifix.com/samsung  or to ship the phone in for service, please reach out to us via one of the following options: 1. @cleanbean It sounds like you clicked on a fake link in a popup from a spammer. 

To properly check for updates and download them, open your phone settings, click on Software update and then click on Download and install.

It won't install tells me to download smart switch on computor

@cleanbean I've never experienced that message before.
