My Samsung Messages app keeps closing. I've restarted my phone multiple times. I've gone to Settings > App Settings > Messages > Storage and hit Clear cache and Clear data. When I do this, the space used for cache and data go down to 0, but then immediately go back up to the original storage amounts when I reopen Messages.

I found a previous conversation about Messages crashing in Dec 2023 and tried following the instructions but when I held down the power button and volume up with the phone turned off, the phone restarted as normal, even though I held them down until after the Samsung logo disappeared.

If I can't fix it, can I install a different app for

My Google storage is 94% full. Could that be connected?

Many of us are having this same issue. There's another thread here posted today on Same topic. S23 Ultra here, and messaging app closes as soon as I start typing

Thank God someone else is having same issue as me; I'm not going crazy. I have restarted phone, full shutdown phone, cleared cache multiple times, checked permissions, checked for updates, I've tried to force stop the app, close it. I don't want to do the delete and backup stuff. I've been researching for the past hour or two of these occurrences but didn't have a lot of luck. I tried sending feedback report to Samsung and of course when I do it the app crashes so when I reload it the screen brings me to Samsung app home screen and not to where I wanted it to be to send the report. I tried to switch over to the Google message app and I honestly hate it. Better than nothing but I want what I have now. I checked my phone carrier map to see if any outages or glitches and there isn't. I checked Samsung outage map and they said no problems as of yet. I live in Massachusetts so I don't know if this is region specific, worldwide, multiple users of Samsung or androids. Frustrating. I've gone on store to see if I could just delete this app and reinstall to see if that might help but there's so many identical app icons like this it is confusing. It isn't there anymore but Google messages is. I've looked over app permissions and nothing seemed out of ordinary. I did my phone security scan and cleaned out old files and data and that didn't help. I have a Samsung galaxy s23

Yea, I'm in California so it looks like this issue does not discriminate. This phenomenon is so odd. Smh.

Same here, A lot of people are having the same issue. I found that composing a new message to respond to people works as a quick fix but I think they're gonna need to release an update to fix it

Samsung support said they are working on it and to use the Google Message app until it's resolved
