Hi all, I found an old smart switch backup from a phone from years ago that I'm trying to restore as it contains messages from friends and family I thought long gone.

I downloaded the latest version of Smart Switch, and backed up my current S24 Galaxy phone, just in case anything went wrong. When I try to restore the old backup, it tells me there is nothing there to backup. When I browse through the folders (the old one has a similar folder structure to the current one),

I can see a lot of the file extensions are different. For example, in the main folder, the recent backup uses 'SmartSwitchBackup.json', whereas the older version is a '.bk'. Same goes for Messages - Current backup is 'Message.smem' whereas the older one is 'sms_restore.bk'.

Any help on how I can restore this old backup? Thanks

Are you putting the backup folder on your internal storage?

The old backup I found is on my computer.

I've been trying to restore it onto my current S24's internal memory; there is no SD card in the phone.

You will need a flash drive with the backup on it, won't load from internal

If using a USB-A drive, you will need a USB-C adapter

Thanks, I've copied the backup from my PC to a flash drive, then connected it to my S24 with a USB-C adapter. However, using Smart Switch on the phone, it says no backup found.
