This is a feature request. It's time samsung add onto their message app for text messages and implement RCS, reply to a text, reactions to texts, not to mention video calling for Samsung to Samsung like a FaceTime for Samsung phones only.

Keeping all of their customization that's already their but adding these other features on top of it. Because I hate using Google messages and Google meet.

Samsung has I believe surrendered to Google Messages due to the many carrier failures of the past where they tried to implement RCS into their own and Samsung Messages had this capability baked in. If you aren't seeing RCS it's because your carrier does not have it enabled and Google Messages became the default.

At this point moving away from RCS altogether is your only option and use something like Signal/Whatsapp/Line and call it a day. At least these services are not directly tied to your phone number and can be used elsewhere regardless of platform you are on.

"moving away from RCS altogether" doesn't sound like a very good solution for Android devices. Apple wins if there is not some sort of concensus on how to implement a solution. I've been using Samsung messaging but would be interested in reading some articles or studies on the different features of other implementations. Do you have any suggestions on where to look?

This isn't an Apple issue but rather a lack of direction from Google and carriers. When RCS was first coming out the carriers essentially where tasked to implement it and in exchange it has caused nothing but problems with limiting functionality of RCS only working internally on their own networks but not cross platform.

Google has also failed to be a leader in their own product because they are a "advertising" company and chose to let the market handle the solution. Only now have they taken an interest again into being competitive and now make RCS available via Jibe but have essentially pulled RCS from carriers. That version of RCS isn't open or available for implementation so Samsung even if they wanted to cannot implement those functions in the default Samsung Messages app because they had the carrier version of it.

This leaves Samsung with only one choice if they care about reliability and that's making the Google Messages app the default. Making Google Messages the same as Apple's iMessage and making the only cross platform option available be SMS/MMS again.

Nobody outside the US fully cares for direct carrier messaging and use alternatives. It's the same logic of getting mad that your @Comcast or @earthlink email can't communicate with outside those related networks. So people instead use Yahoo or Gmail. This is no different.

Samsung Messages should instead implement an open source solution like Signal app and give a middle finger to Google and Apple on their closed platforms.

RCS. If they don't support it, they should surrender to Google Messages.

If you don't mind me asking, why do you hate using Google Messages?

Samsung Messages has RCS Messaging (AT&T and TMobile only allow RCS Messaging via Google Messages) that and Video Calling are upto the carriers about the only thing Samsung Messages doesn't have compared to Google Messages is Reactions
