So I recently bought my mom a brand new Galaxy A13 4G (Unlocked) a few months ago. Recently, she had been complaining that sometimes when she clicks the power key to view the locks screen, it will show blackness for 3 seconds and then show the lock screen briefly, only to screen time out. Then when she clicks it again, it'll flicker on and then off. The third time is mostly the time when it'll work normally. I don't know why it does this; it happens pretty frequently.

I already tried restarting it, and updated it to the latest software.

Thank you for reaching out. I can certainly understand your concern with your mom's lock screen not functioning properly, and I would be happy to look into this further for you. If your phone or tablet is misbehaving, it's possible that a third-party app is causing the issue. To figure out what app is acting funny, you can use the Safe mode feature. In Safe mode, your device won't run any third-party apps. Give this link a try for step to put the device in safe mode to see if the screen still doesn't function properly: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00062983/\

If you have tried safe mode and are still experiencing these symptoms, the next step would be to wipe the cache partition on the A13. The system cache partition stores temporary system data. It's supposed to allow the system to access apps more quickly and efficiently, but sometimes things get cluttered and outdated, so a periodic cache clearing can help make the system run more smoothly. Give these steps a try to wipe the cache partition for the device:

• Turn off the device.
• Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Power key.
• When the Android logo displays, release both keys.
• An 'Installing system update' message will show for 30 - 60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu options appear.
• Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
• Press Power key to select.
• Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
• When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
• Press the Power key to restart the device.

Next step if wiping the cache partition didn't resolve the symptoms would be a factory reset. If you need to wipe your phone's data for any reason, you can perform a factory reset. This feature will completely erase your personal information and data to make your phone a clean slate.

Important: Please save any information you need prior to the factory reset because your personal information may not be recovered. If you have encrypted the microSD card, you must decrypt it before resetting the phone. Otherwise, your phone will not be able to read the data on the card. From Settings, search for and select Decrypt SD card, and then follow the on-screen prompts. Before you perform a factory reset, be sure to back up your personal data, so you don't lose it all. Please use this link for the proper steps to back up and factory reset her device: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00062029/

I doubt it's the buttons themselves but it's something in the software causing this issue

If settings for power buttons doesn't help I'd take it to provider store where u bought it. Or try for refund/swap if they can't fix it

Maybe set it so she needs only to double tap the screen or pick up the phone for the lock screen to come on?

Yes we enabled that but to no avail. It's so weird that it does this since she's taken care of it
