A Series & Other MobileIs that Samsung messages? Samsung messages no longer supports RCS. If you want RCS, you have to switch to Google messages. If you don't care about RCS, you can stick with Samsung.

A Series & Other MobileSamsung is not really supporting the app anymore, so they are not updating it. The carriers have determined that they will use the Google RCS protocol, so Samsung is not putting any effort into supporting it. I have no explanation for why your parents' phones are acting differently, unless they switched to Google messages, or they previously had RCS enabled or their app just didn't catch up to the change yet. Doesn't matter whether they use the same carrier or not, it's the messaging app that counts.
