Not receiving new Gmail emails notifications on my A15

Hey. Was just wondering if anybody else has an issue with getting notifications of new email with Gmail or any other email app. I often send myself email with photos I want to save rather than take out the sd card. I was doing that tonight and when I hit send and waiting a few minutes. No sound, no icon, nothing. The email was there, just no notification sound or icon. And it's not because I sent it to myself.

I restarted, and it worked. Is there anything more I can do? Thanks

Check that notifications is on for Gmail most likely is but Check and also might need to clear the cache

OK, but I hate clearing cache. It signs me out of everything

Shouldn't do that goto settings than apps to Gmail than storage and than clear cache

I get notifications not by sound
by visual cues on the home screen where Gmail is in a clustered group. The notifications is by numbers of new email.
