Why does the lower half of my Flip 3 flash white light for about 5 secs when I open the phone up?

The bottom half of your screen is probably in the process of breaking, not necessarily, but it is very possible. If I were you, I would take it to your local UBreakIFix or other Samsung approved service center and have a diagnostic run. http://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/location
