That's exactly it, Samsung is going backward in the way they think about customers. Rather than thinking about the customer's lifetime value, they are going back to the archaic way of thinking about transactional values. My entire home is how Samsung put it today, a Samsung ecosystem. But they are risking alienating it's lifetime customers out of greed. I mean, there are much cheaper rings on the market, but I would have been willing to pay in full for theirs, albeit I don't see the value in it if they're just going to jack up all the prices on everything else when I made such a hefty investment in them years and years ago thinking it would pan out in the long run.

I just got off the phone with Samsung customer care and I specifically asked and talked to a supervisor and they were adamant about saying that the decrease in the trade-in value is because of the increase the upgrades of the flip 6 and I had a correct them that the upgrades are actually rather minor. I mean, the 50 megapixel upgrade is somewhat substantial but that's only one camera. The processor upgrade is the normal yearly upgrade. Same is the normal yearly tweaks to the frame and the crease. But he kept arguing with me like he actually knew what he was talking about! LOL bad enough that the Outsource the people who can barely understand English in the first place let alone understand what the reading off of a screen!

What makes no sense about that entire logic is that increasing the upgrades of the Flip 6 should, therefore, increase the cost of the Flip 6. Why on Earth would it decrease the value of the Flip 5?

Cell Phones, even in the best of condition, automatically depreciate in value over time and musicMagpie did a report about samsung and said there Phones can loose an average of 68% in 12 months and up to 77% in 24 months even PC Mag stated that taking the phone brand new out of the box depreciates it's value quickly also condition plays key on its value they are like a new car pull out the lot and loose value

I'm not really sure you understood the point of my post. I don't know where I ever said that phones don't depreciate. I simply commented how Samsung's trade-in program is letting the community down. Every iteration of the flip phone, with the trade-in of the previous one, has cost $49.99. It is kind of like a loyalty program type thing, rather than basing it purely off of depreciation. Why on Earth would they give a $1,000 trade-in value for the flip 4 last year and decrease that to $650 trade-in value for the flip 5 this year? That's my question. Can you explain why the depreciation between the two is so different apparently?

Hey @Mark529h, just a guess here  but it's just business.  For whatever reason, wither profit or market share of whatever, Samsung felt the need to inflate trade-in values to get more sales and improve the market share of their Z Series phones.  Now in 2024 apparently things are looking better on the P&L front and they've achieved whatever their goals were and they can abandon the "loss leader" kind of pricing and get that lost value back to their shareholders.  I don't think that there's anything nefarious it's just free market.  I don't work for Samsung, just my 2 cents.

Really Bill? Is it business? Thanks for stating the obvious, haha. And again, my post had nothing to do with this. It was simply stating that they're alienating their loyal customers. Man, you guys need to learn how to read a post before commenting on it.

Now, you don't work for Samsung, but you're an ambassador, so of course you're going to defend them because I'm sure you get kickbacks.

Now, can you comment about how they're alienating their loyal customers or stay off of it and comment on other people's posts to defend Samsung?

@Mark529h What in my response sounded like I'm defending them?  I'd love to rent my phone for $49/year and get a new one every year but I understand (I think) the reasons that it happened for a few years and I don't get upset about it when it doesn't happen..and that was my only point.

Justifying why a company did it is the same as defending a company. And no, probably because you rent your phone for free every year being a Samsung Ambassador. I heard that's one of the perks talking to a former ambassador.

You're generally pretty misinformed.  Not  that I owe you any explanation but I paid almost $900 of my money for my Fold 5 after trade-in and discounts last year.

Have a good day.
