Why does the Buds/Wearables app need Nearby and Location settings turned on?

Why does the Buds 2/Wearable needs near by settings and location turned on for the buds to work? I just want to listen to my music and answer calls. Why need my calendar and such 🤔

I would assume they need the location so you could find them if they ever got lost.
