I have a Galaxy Note 9....
When I try to open a Samsung Notes file created before today's update,  I get a message that says I have to install the Samsung Notes-Add On to open them. When I click install it wants to use something called package installer. But when I click on this it says that the source is unknown. I am not allowing anything unknown to install on my phone. What is going on? How do I access my old notes.

FYI...restarting the app, force stopping, and cache clearing have failed to resolve the problem.

I FIGURED IT OUT!

1) Open the Notes App

2) tap the 3 horizontal lines on the left hand side (the menu)

3) tap the 'settings' icon on the upper right side of the menu (the gear symbol)

4) there should be an option there for you on the list that says 'convert old notes'. Tap it.

5) a prompt will pop up explaining that your old notes will be converted to be compatible with the new update. Tap 'Accept' or 'Continue'.

6) enjoy your old notes in a whole new way. All of my notes are the same, nothing has changed and I am so relieved. I hope this helps!

I had the same problem on my J5.  In the end to retrieveallowed the add ons app which made me uneasy.  It took me several password changes to sort because it kept telling me it didnt recognise my password - even when I changed it.  My Samsung Members password stopped working as I had too many attempts to sort it out. After spending hours on it I eventually got into my notes but only after allowing the the unknown source app.  Today I have deleted all of my notes, uninstalled the add on and I wont ever use Samsung Notes again!

I'm in the same boat. Every time I invest time into any notes app it eventually is discontinued and the notes become inaccessible. I finally caved and just used Samsung to avoid that happening again, and here I am with a pile of uneditable notes.

Unfortunately, you would be unable to rollback the update.

Same. I want to roll back. Had not realised the app was auto-updating, now I have to "convert" to use my own notes. And for what? There are posters saying nothing has changed, others saying they really like the update, and nothing that itemizes what the changes are.

So the only rollback solution is to copy/paste all the notes into another format, like a text editor or word, uninstall or reset Notes (which deletes all data - a crappy way to enforce we all fall in line), then try to copy/paste back into newly created notes.

So the first note I allowed to be converted can no longer be edited! It's totally messed up the formatting, entire sections of important text (the vmajority) has disappeared behind a drop

Gah, now I can't even type a complete reply here!

My notes are ruined. I can't edit them after conversion. They are gone.

I can't even copy in the new format. The contents are unusable.

Samsung Jam - is it possible to uninstall the Notes update if I have not converted my notes?

I know I'll eventually have to update but would prefer to wait until the bugs are worked out. My Notes contain vital info which I need and don't wish to risk losing or corruption.  Thanks.
