I've been using my Galaxy Watch with no issues for months.
Yesterday I bought the Galaxy Ring. Throughout the day I have noticed that the ring was doing nothing as long as the watch was connected to my phone. Please note that I was not wearing the watch, it was charging on my desk. For example, it's not tracking my heartrate at all. If I go to the heartrate page in Samsung Health, I can't even trigger a manual measure, the button does not show up.
Now, if I leave the house without my watch, or turn off my watch, then the ring starts working as intended. And I can trigger a heartrate measurement manually again.
I went to sleep at night wearing my ring, with my phone charging in another room. My ring did not track any sleep, or heartrate during the night. Again, because my watch is still connected to my phone even though i'm not wearing it, so the app assumes it should use the watch instead of the ring to track.
Now, I fully understand that while the watch is available, the ring is only used as a backup. However, when I'm not actually wearing the watch, I expect the ring to take over.
Surely what I have described above is not expected behaviour?

EDIT: something else worth mentioning: if my watch is charging on my desk, and I'm wearing my ring, when I start a workout (let's say running), the workout starts on my watch, and it's attempting to read my heartbeat from the watch. On top of this, I see the lights on the ring flickering, it's also measuring my heartbeat, but not sending it to Samsung Health app. That makes absolutely no sense.
Do you have wear detection feature enabled on your Galaxy watch? What model Galaxy watch is it? That is not the intended behavior. If both are worn, in connection terms, the watch is the master and the ring is the slave connection once the watch comes off the ring should automatically take the role as master device right behind the phone (also a master but highest authority in the daisy chain) Check if you have a lock screen on the watch and if auto detect wrist is functioning.
Sorry missed that part. That's why it's happening. They both track your health. The ring is usually requested for people that dont/cant/won't wear a watch. It's just another way to keep track but only 1 will register in the health app
It says: "If you find that the battery is draining on either the ring or the watch, you can charge one while wearing the other and still receive health tracking benefits."
Right. It's says it shares the data. Only one or the other will track but not both at the same time. It will default to the watch if both in proximity. If you want it to track sleep on your ring, disconnect your watch so it won't default to it.
If that's really how it works, it's extremely underwhelming. Disconnecting/connecting my Watch every time I take it off/put it on sounds so silly.
Wearable app shows clearly that it detects when the watch is charging. Why in the **bleep** would the app attempt to track anything on a device that it knows I'm not wearing?
Both devices are supposed to be complementary, but instead this means the ring is literally becoming a useless piece a plastic as soon as it's in proximity of the watch, that's insane.
Most definitely not what I would expect from a gadget sold with such a high price tag.
