Getting too many spam calls/texts after switching to Google Messages

2 weeks ago I switched from Samsung Messages and made Google Messages my default. Since then, I have received many spam texts and more than a typical amount of spam phone calls.

All of these spam texts and calls are blocked so none have caused issues.

Because of the mentioned spam, I'm thinking about switching back to Samsung Messages.

What do you guys think? Anyone else see a noted increase in spam after switching to Google Messages? Thanks

@uservgrto6bS79 Switching to Google messages had nothing to do with an increase in spam messages. It just happened to coincide with an increase in spam.

Thanks... You are probably correct. Let's see if others agree.

The last few days before election day, there was a big increase in spam with canvassers sending out texts.  As @LongHiker said, it has nothing to do with the app.  You can turn off notifications for the spam so you never see or hear of them unless and until you check the spam and blocked section.  In notifications, turn off the slider for for spam protection.  You have to have categories enabled for this.

I use Google Messages for a very long time (I own Pixel as well) and this app block most if not all of junk! Some may show up in the inbox if your messages app, however when you open it, you have the option to report as spam. As previous person mentioned make sure spam protection is selected in the app's settings. I also use Phone app from Google which has other options for blocking scam calls.

It definitely was because of Google messages- don't listen to them. Same thing happened to me. I NEVER get spam text/calls and the very day to switch they started coming in like a train :train:. Just switched back.

So, everyone is wrong except you. Okie doke.  Did you ever consider that you had spam protection turned on in Samsung Messages, and didn't turn it on in Google messages?
