Not getting updates on S22 Ultra

Anyone can tell me if there is issue with getting updates on this device. My last update says Jan 2024. My phone is factory unlocked. Any help is appreciated. My device has no AI features

Never said that but factory unlocked devices get the update before carrier unlocked that's what I was told

You were told wrong.  Factory unlocked devices still get their updates from the carriers.  One of the things that gets changed when you insert a Sim card, or enroll an eSim is the location for the update server.  Carriers also like to play games, and will move the update to the back of the queue for unlocked devices, so they usually get them last.

But all the way to Jan 2024. That's almost a year ago that makes no sense that long

What fixed my issue was changing my Sim card to the carrier it originally came from

So the Updates definitely come from the carrier. If you have an unlocked phone there can be delays as your phone is no longer locked to the carrier's OTA Update's Server. It does take different carrier's different amount of time to test Updates and release them with adjustments to their specific networks. There isn't major updates often but you should get a security patch each month. Now that won't necessarily change the current Android 14 Version but it will update the build to reflect the October Security Patch. Now when Android 15 or A new One UI Version comes out you will see a full update. So these are the updates you should have now, connecting to Smart Switch also can help. DL Smart Switch on your PC & Phone, connect USB. Go to the charging options and change from charging only to file transfers. Open Smart Switch on The PC and go into the the top settings tab, it will show you backup options and also if there is a pending update if not you can select to prepare for next update and it will make all your patches and missing updates current which sometimes causes an OTA update within 24 hours.
