I received this message shortly after a software update, and my S22 Ultra died shortly afterward.

"SECURE CHECK FAIL : modem (1). Security Error. This phone has been flashed with unauthorized software & is locked."

Is anyone familiar with this error message?  What happened and what does it mean?

Samsung held me liable for the $550 repair cost, which I vehemently disagree with.  Why should I be liable for damage caused by the software update? My phone would still be working if the update had not occurred.

Chronology:
1. Software update completed on the morning of 1/26/25.
2. A few hours later, I opened an app, and my phone froze for a few seconds, then shut off. Holding the power button + volume down did nothing.
3. A few hours later, I found a turquoise display with the message: "SECURE CHECK FAIL : modem (1). Security Error. This phone has been flashed with unauthorized software & is locked...".
I pressed the power + volume down buttons, but the phone shut off.
4. The same display appeared ~2 hours later. I pressed the power + volume down buttons, but the phone shut off. The phone hasn't turned on since.
5. The next day, uBreakiFix checked the phone and said the issue may be the motherboard or battery, and suggested waiting for the repair update, but turning the phone on may be an issue. He was familiar with the update causing issues. The phone can charge.
6. Samsung tech suspects an incomplete update, who knew about update issues.
