Why am I suddenly getting notifications for updating my apps through Chrome? I only do updates through the Playstore and Galaxy apps.

If a website you visit on Chrome asks to "allow notifications" . You have an option to not allow them. If some websites have been allowed already, you can disallow it in settings.
In chrome, press the 3 dots -> press settings -> site settings -> notifications -> press allowed and choose which allowed sites you want to disallow -> turn off allow notifications![Screenshot_20230520_163131_Chrome.jpg Screenshot_20230520_163131_Chrome.jpg](https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/1054658iC060A1197E9C9841/image-size/small?v=v2&px=200)

You could have malware on the phone? It could also be the website trying to get you to install malware.
Maybe you should run the McAfee security app included with the phone.
Otherwise these are just pop up and you can install a pop up blocker.
You are right not to install anything via the browser and only use Google play or Galaxy store.
