The hilarious thing was, Samsung themselves in their OneUI 6.0 design documentation, makes a distinct emphasis on reachability being a core facet of their design language and philosophy. As in you will have noticed that in Samsung apps, you can always make that initial swipe down which drags the UI elements of the app from the top corners of your screen towards the center where you can access any additional buttons without needing to use two hands or straining your hand to reach. That final swipe down, whether in an app, or for the notifications/quick settings tray, was intuitive, and consistent across oneui 6, the option to single swipe down from a segment of the status bar to get to quick settings by default literally goes against their own stated design philosophy

So the vertical apps screen was how Android 1.0 originally shipped with, and Samsung or course at that time, had to do their Samsung thing and go against the design meta with their horizontal swipe paginated app drawer, while also removing the option for a vertical scrolling one. I can see the pros and cons of both, if the amount of apps available in your system tray is relatively static, then you can probably learn to memorize which apps are on which page. The problem becomes immediately apparent when your app count changes and shifts the shortcuts across the drawer pages arbitrarily; if it takes more than a few swipes and taps, using the finder/search is often faster

Vertical works simply because it's all one alphabetical list you can swipe and stop to whatever letter and go from there.

The historical context is definitely good to know, and I agree with your breakdown. Between scrolling and paginated layouts, I’d take vertical scrolling any day. That said, I do wish the implementation was a bit more refined—specifically regarding the behavior of the native scroll bar when there are only one or two lines of apps displayed in the drawer. Hidden or visible, it introduces a layer of awkwardness that feels more like a bug than a design choice.

I can appreciate the intent behind the changes, but defaulting users into a different behavior without offering a choice doesn't seem like the most consumer-centric approach—especially for a company like Samsung that has traditionally marketed itself on customization and flexibility. It’s a relatively small detail, but given Samsung's position in the tech space, offering both a paginated and scrolling option would seem like a logical way to bridge design evolution with user preference.

This is a great UI And because it's so new it's normal to find a few glitches what I found so far is in the applications bar at the bottom when I click on WhatsApp it'll stick sometimes along with a couple of other apps. Click on the app but nothing happens. There's also some English misspellings elsewhere in the app but I am sure they will catch this soon.

Samsung often collects user feedback about such issues, and it helps them improve future updates. You can report the spelling errors through the Samsung Members app:

  1. Open the Samsung Members app.

  2. Tap on Support.

  3. Select Send Feedback, and choose Report Issue.

  4. Describe the issue (e.g., spelling errors) and attach a screenshot if possible.

Samsung will likely address these types of issues in future updates.

One Ui 7. It's just awesome, getting an extremely good battery life. I was disappointed about battery life while using 7.0 beta version. There is a new feature in Bluetooth :Broadcast the sound from this phone so others can listen. Everything seems look like perfect including AI features.
