Galaxy S24

Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

So what? Your profile also says "0 solutions". DarthVader99 also has 61 likes compared to your 4 likes at the time of this writing. What's your point?

My point is don't comment with laughing emojis when you don't have any real solutions to offer.
Make sense?

Not really, no. They're laughing at you for a reason. As would any lawyer you tried to hire for your "class action lawsuit".

"The make sense?" Was a rhetorical question. Has absolutely no impact on my original sentiment if a bunch of unhelpful members laugh at me.
We were misled by Samsung and this is wrong nd this needs to be rectified with a patch. What a waste of time you've been this evening.
Now shush!

The latest YouTube video I saw from a popular reviewer says that Samsung has no intention of fixing the dull screen issues. Their attitude is that that's just the way we at Samsung think you the consumer will like the screen. We don't believe in giving the end user any choices in how you use our phones. We'll here's my choice Samsung. I'm returning the phone and going to purchase a phone from your biggest competitor, the iPhone 15 pro max.

I'm coming from an S23 Ultra, and honestly, the S24 Ultra screen still looks great to me, and it's not a defect if it's the direction they want to go.

Let's get one thing straight, tho. A display color profile is literally a tiny piece of software that doesn't have to be "replaced" by something else, etc. It can merely be added. They can easily, easily give people what they want (and that they pushed for decades, namely Vivid mode). So let's not pretend this is some kind of "there are only two slots for Natural and Vivid in the phone", it's just a color profile. So expand the options, don't appropriate the classic Vivid mode that's not even worth being called "Natural+".

Just return it, that is the single most effective way to voice your opinion on the matter.

My old S10+ on a side-by-side with the S24 (Anything But Ultra) puts the S24 to shame. The S24 home screen is so drab and dismal in comparison it literally makes me sad (emotionally) as it's that uninspiring and DULL. Not optimistic Anything will or can be done. So I have no choice but to "Return to sender" for my $1100 refund as I don't have that kind of money to just throw away.
