Google has already been fined for illegally collecting data, such as this incident in 2019. This is not the only such incident and they're not the only big tech company doing that sort of thing.

I agree, but sadly I don't think any of the other big tech companies are any different, including Samsung.

If you're really worried about privacy, consider switching to a privacy-friendly messaging app like Signal.

One feature from Samsung Messages that I sorely miss is the trash can. I have fat fingers and now I'm always worried that I'll accidentally delete an important message or conversation. With Google Messages, it's gone for good with no way to get it back.
