Here is a strange one.. We just moved from Verizon to ATT and ported our numbers. Wife has a 25Ultra, I have an iPhone. Wife is in a group chat with other teacher friends, one on T-Mobile and the other on Spectrum. When the three of them chat, wifes messages are received by all, wife does not receive replies from the Spectrum user. Direct message to Spectrum user works fine. When I'm added into a new group with all three of them, I get all sends and replies.

It seems like when three carriers are involved, the problem shows up.

Background: Ported from Verizon to ATT, 25Ultra

Wife: ATT Ultra

Me: ATT iPhone

User A: Spectrum

User B: T-Mobile

Have reset network, cleared cache, spent hours with ATT support

@lcwfl I'm guessing these troublesome people are iPhone users. iPhone uses a completely different system than the standard used by Android users. There are frequent incompatibilities in messaging, especially when fringe carriers don't configure their systems correctly.

The issue is the interface between Apple's Messages and Androids SMS/MMS.

The solution that my wife and her friends use is WhatsApp. It doesn't care what phone type you are using nor what carrier you have. Once they switched to WhatsApp, the issues of missing messages and incorrectly sequenced messages vanished.

You could go for FB Messenger, Signal, or anything that is similar.

I wish it was that easy. They all have Samsung phones. We have tried using the Samsung messenger app as well with the same result. If all three carriers are in the chat, my wife doesn't receive the responses from the Spectrum user, but I do on my iPhone.

I will see if they want to try WhatsApp, but they are teachers and change doesn't come easy.

Any other ideas out there?

Perhaps all of the users could reset their mobile network settings. I do not know how that works on the iPhone. Anyway, go to settings/general management/reset then choose reset mobile network settings.

It's that your shared Apple account gets them by default, so it negates the text for her. I recently switched to and had the same issue. What I did to fix it was disallow FaceTime and message on every device that could possibly still be getting the messages on my Apple account for that number/message Apple user. Once I broke the connection linking my "number" to my Apple user account, it worked! It was maddening as it had to unlink it from my iPad, computer, watch, and any phone I had used to check the messages app or FaceTime on.

We don't share Apple accounts. Everything works on my Apple devices, it's her Samsung device that is not working. We don't share any accounts anywhere.

Right, that's what I'm saying. Same thing happened when I went to samsung fold. It's using the Apple account not her number on the chat, that's the issue. Trust me when I say this is exactly what is wrong. I spent 2 days running this down on my samsung, don't waste your time like I did. Go through every setting possible and then ask your friends to re-add her to the chat using her phone number(not her name in the contacts page)
