Galaxy S25@kpatt2006 This was discussed once before on this site. If the swipe was vertical there would be a larger chance of error (swiping outside the widget). A swipe up on the home screen causes the phone to switch to the app screen. So more people would be accidentally switching to the app screen when they were just trying to swipe between widgets.

Galaxy S25I just came from a phone where the widgets were vertical swipe, on the newest iOS. This iteration of horizontally swiping widgets is way more annoying. I actually had to remove the widget stacks on my middle of the screen widgets because I couldn't swipe to my other homescreens without swiping widgets. I never once had a missed vertical widget swipe on the iphone which would've opened the search function or whatever. Plus, I would guess more people are switching between home screens where they have widgets and apps they use all the time, than opening the app drawer.
Anyway, this being android, there should be a setting somewhere in One UI to give the user a choice between vertical or horizontal.

Galaxy S25I do agree that providing the option for vertical or horizontal swiping would be most flexible. This may not be possible due to Android system limitations.
