Galaxy Watch 6 is detected by wearables app on my S23 FE, but doesn't respond to number on watchface.

I just got a Watch6 and am trying activate it.  The only problem is that while the wearables app detects th watch, it provides no way for me to confirm the number displayed by the watch.  I've tried this a number of times without success.  Help!!!
