Why can't I send or receive texts when my phone is turned off?? I have a galaxy watch 6 classic and a fold 5. I a cannot send or receive texts messages when my phone is turned off. I have tried Samsung messaging app and Google Messaging app. Either works. I have had older model watches 3, 4 and 5. All LTE through At&t. They all worked fine in this situation. So I don't understand why Samsung would take this option away for for it's latest devices!!! They need to fix this ASAP!!!

Do any of you turn mobile data off on the watch?  Even though text is not, technically, data feed driven, it may need the mobile data on for the texts to com/go through. I haven't tested that theory yet, because I don't get/send many texts independent of being connected to my phone, and the one person who messages me the most uses FB messenger, not text.

I've noticed a slight delay in notifications on my watch compared to my phone—my phone rings first, followed by my watch. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix for it? When I used an Apple Watch, notifications would appear on the watch before I even saw them on my phone.

Has anyone got a solution for this ? 😞

i got the Galaxy watch 7 yesterday and am dealing with the same exact problem

1. Remote service is ON

2. Paired phone is switched off

3. LTE watch will receive calls / make calls

4. LTE watch will not receive or send text messages till the paired phone is switched off

5. LTE watch immediately starts receiving and sending texts as soon as paired phone is switched on

SOOOO Frustrating !!

Texting is strictly the province of the carrier.  In the case of LTE watches, the standalone texting does not really work as well as the standalone calling.  I don't know why.  However, I had a long session with my carrier's tech support unit, and they did several things and finally (I think) fixed the issue.  At least it was fixed by the end of the phone call.  I don't usually get or send a lot of texts.  When I do, I am usually connected to the phone, so they do come on my watch, but to this day, I have no idea whether they are coming through the phone to the paired watch, or coming independently.  When I am BT disconnected from my phone, my watch has remote connection turned on, which only requires that the paired phone is turned on, the watch is turned on and both devices are connected to a network (mobile or wi-fi).  Both devices do not have to be on the same network, as long as they are connected to your Google account. The remote connection works through Google cloud services.  Since most public wi-fi is not compatible with the watch's wi-fi, If you are out and about, I recommend mobile data being on and DO NOT turn off your paired phone, whether it is with you or not.  As I said, I have no idea at this point when I get any texts they are coming through the remote connection or coming through on their own.  I do not care, as long as I get them (and even then, not so much, as I will get them later).

So, if you are not getting texts in standalone mode on your watch, you have to contact your carrier, as it is strictly their issue.

I have an OPTUS LTE plan, Samsung Watch Ultra and an S23 Ultra.

If I am away from my phone, the watch will not send messages. Calls are fine, but no messages on either the google or samsung messages app.

I have reset the watch, turn flight mode on and off. Nothing works.

I don't know why I bought a watch that should be able do this, but cant, whilst also paying OPTUS for the privilege.

My old Samsung Watch 5 had no issues doing the above.

Anyone else have issues with messaging as standalone watch, or something similar?

That's a carrier issue.

Yes, it's a carrier issue that appears to be unresolvable with certain carriers on several watch models, including the Watch 6 & 7 LTE watches. Carrier websites, as well as the Samsung website, state that texting without Bluetooth connectivity to a companion phone may fail. No explanation is provided.

Which network does Metro use? I'm using Google Fi, which is on T-Mobile and has the texting problem with LTE capable watches.
