Hi! I bought a Galaxy Watch 6 for my daughter who does not have a phone. I purchased the monthly cellular so she can have calls, text, etc.

I have spent half the day trying to activate the watch. The Samsung website says this watch can be used alone and no cell phone is needed (unlike watch 4 and 5). There's even a page that instructs you to click on the question mark upon turning the watch on and that will activate the watch by itself (sans phone). That page is here under the "without phone" section: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00078020/

I spent hours at the AT&T store. I called AT&T Customer Service. No one can figure this out.

The opening screen does not have a question mark. Help!

Thank you

The reason its calling from your number is because when you had it activated with your carrier, they linked your number with the watch

I was wondering if that's possibly why it wasn't working. So even though I double checked and my account clearly shows the different number on the watch, it could still be linked to my number?

Also, do you know if, once it's standalone, does it need the phone wearable app to add contacts, change watch faces, etc.?

The watch should have storage for contacts

Thank you for reaching out. I can certainly understand your frustration with not being able to use your Galaxy watch 6 as a standalone device. Using the link you provided there is a note that states the following: Galaxy Fit models and Galaxy Watches running Wear OS cannot be used without a phone. Please know your Galaxy watch 6 isn't going to be used without a phone as it's a Wear OS model.

You called AT&T and spoke to customer service, they know less than the people in the stores. You have to make sure you spoke to tech support. The problem may be that when you added the watch line to your sccount, instead if giving the watch it's own separate number, they paired it to your number. In that case the watch's phone number will not work as a stand alone for incoming calls, the only calls that will come in would be calls to your phone but if the device is not paired with your phone then there's no place for those calls to go but your voicemail. The watch needs it's own phone plan, not an add on plan.

Hi! I spoke to the store and customer service. I know for sure they assigned a different number to it.

I had it in my mind to call tech support, but the wait time is so long, and I need a break from this for a little while (I've spent around 10 hours on this so far).

I'll try it and report back.

Yes, all watches get their own number but the number is usually paired with the main number on the account because most people use the watching phone in conjunction with each other you would have had to tell them specifically that you did not want it paired at all to your phone that you wanted it to be its own number and they should have tested it in the store to make sure that they called to that number would go through. My watch has a separate number but if it's called it just goes nowhere or you get one of those disconnect signals, but if you call my phone it comes through on the watch just fine even when I'm not connected to the phone.

That's the way it usually is with an add on. If one wants standalone, one has to purchase a whole separate phone plan, which will cost as much as for a second phone line. The people in the stores know how to to the very basics of setup snd have no tech support knowledge (unless they happen to be geek oriented). Their job is to sell you a phone, a plan and setup. I would not have left the store until they made a phone call directly to the watch number to make sure it works the way I asked for it to work.
