So, I followed the advice in another post on this subject and uninstalled FB Messenger and installed an older version (485.00.58.111) and it is now working again.  If you roll back, don't forget to adjust your play store settings to not auto update apps until such time as a new update fixes the issue.

Also, please report the issue to Meta (preferably before you uninstall the current app) by going to the messenger settings within the app and selecting "report an issue" and include your logs.

https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/facebook-2/messenger/messenger-485-0-0-58-111-release/

Uninstall the current version and make sure the "keep data" is unchecked.  Go to the settings and make sure install unknown apps is enabled for "my files" (or you will be prompted when trying to install the app). Go to file manager and find the .apk file and install it and sign into your Messenger account and make sure your conversations are synced. Then go into the play store, search for Messenger and tap the 3-dot menu and uncheck "enable auto update", otherwise you will get the update to the current version.

Before you uninstall the current version, however, go into the Messenger app, tap the menu and select settings and then "report an issue" and report the problem and submit your logs. If you report it after you downgrade, the logs will be incorrect.

Which phone do you have?  They have several versions of the same app to work with different phones. Scroll down to see the downloads and choose the one that says "no dpi" in the far right column.

The safest option is to download the version that I pictured above. There are like 15 different versions depending on your screen dpi. The one with no dpi is the most generic version and will likely work with your phone. I have the A54 and it worked with mine.

I downloaded the version that is compatible with my phone, However, now I think I'm not getting any notifications at all on the watch through messenger.  Notifications are turned on in the wearable app
