Watch 4 doesn't receive messages after factory reset

Whenever I get notifications they don't show up on my watch. It used to when I first got it but after I factory reset it I'm unsure how to turn it back on. This would be a very helpful feature to be back on incase I just want to glance at them quickly. Any help with this?

In the galaxy wearable app under settings and then notifications, check to see if the ones you want to see are turned on.
