Kitchen and Family HubI understand how this may be frustrating with not be able to use wi-fi on your fridge, have you tried the steps below?
If you've previously connected to the network but now cannot, the most common steps to get connected again are to forget the network (navigate to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi, tap your network, then tap Forget), and then perform a power cycle (Step 8).
If your refrigerator was previously connected to your network but lost connection immediately after a change to the settings on your router, then the change to your settings is likely the cause of the issue and should be reverted.
-
Check if you can connect to your network after each of the following steps.
To connect to your network, navigate to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi, make sure Wi-Fi is turned on, tap your network to select it, and then enter your network password.
Network troubleshooting is broken down into four pieces, depending on the issue you're having. Some troubleshooting steps are the same, so you can skip any steps you've already done in a previous section. Once you've connected to your network, then you can stop troubleshooting here.
If you still have an issue, continue with the section for the issue you're experiencing:
- Refrigerator can't detect my network
- Refrigerator won't connect to Wi-Fi (You are here)
- Refrigerator connects to Wi-Fi but not internet
- Refrigerator has bad internet connection
-
Check the password.
- Use the Show password setting. Even if you have the right password, you may have accidentally hit an incorrect character.
- You can double-check your password by trying to connect any other Wi-Fi device (like a phone) and entering the same password. If the device is already connected to the network, forget the network and reenter the password.
-
Check your network's settings which allow devices to connect to the network.
The necessary network requirements vary between refrigerators and are listed in the user manual. If the network does not meet the requirements, the refrigerator will be unable to see or connect to it.
In most cases, the default settings for home networks are fine. However, if the network settings have been adjusted, confirm that they meet the requirements of the refrigerator.
If you need help adjusting these settings, contact your ISP if they provided the router, or the manufacturer of the router if it was bought separately.
-
Check the network's signal strength.
Using a phone, connect to your home's network. Then, hold the phone next to the refrigerator and check the signal strength. If it is only one or two bars (or doesn't appear on the phone either), the signal may be too weak for the refrigerator to connect to.
To fix this, move the router and refrigerator closer to each other, or use something to increase the router's signal strength, like a repeater.
-
Reduce the number of connected devices on the network.
Disconnect all other Wi-Fi devices from the network, and then try to connect the refrigerator.
If this works, it means you have more devices connected than your router can handle. You should upgrade your router or connect less devices.
-
Try connecting to a different network.
This step can help determine what the issue might be. For instance, if a phone with hotspot capabilities is available, have it create a network and try to connect the refrigerator to the hotspot. If any other networks are available, they can be tried as well.
If the refrigerator can connect to any other network, service is not required, and the issue is with the network. Contact your ISP if they provided the router, or the manufacturer of the router if it was bought separately.
-
Power cycle the network.
- Unplug every network-related device (such as a router, modem, etc.), and turn off the refrigerator's panel. Family Hub refrigerators have a Power switch for the control panel located at the inside the top-right door. If the panel does not have a switch, unplug the refrigerator.
- Beginning at the wall the internet signal comes from, plug in the first device and allow it to finish booting up.
- Creating a path between the internet signal and the refrigerator, plug in the next device in the path and allow it to finish booting up. Repeat until all devices in the path are powered back on, including the refrigerator panel.
- Try connecting to the network again.
If the troubleshooting steps did not help above then this will require service, you have a couple of options based on your warranty.
- If your unit was recently purchased, you can check with your retailer on their return/exchange processes.
- If you have an extended warranty you can reach out to them to have service set up.
- If you're within the one year warranty, you can Private message me or one of our moderators with your full model and serial number to have service setup
- If you're OUT of warranty, you can use this link below to find a service center in your area.
