My rf29a9071sg refrigerator/freezer will drop new ice when the ice tray is pulled forward getting ice. Is there supposed to be a sensor of some sort to prevent the dumping of ice and filling of new water either while the door is open or the trays are pulled forward? I have had ice dumped down the back of the freezer while I was getting ice a few times now.
@karthYes. Generally it is a bent stiff wire which stops new ice if it is resting on ice in the tray. With the tray pulled out, the wire would detect no ice and ice would be dispensed. After reading the owner's manual, it appears that this wire is not present in this model.
I believe that is true, but not really helpful for the few seconds it takes to get ice. It seems to at least have a sensor to not overfill the ice trays but nothing to prevent dropping of ice if trays are not present.
As a programmer/UI person, I'd have tapped the door sensor to simply not drop ice if the freezer door was open. I have not tried setting up access to the api to see what it shows as output.
