Hi Everyone
update.
For months I have been chasing Samsung re: firmware updates, eventually I got hold of 2nd level support and a technician that actually knew something instead of giving me standard pre-canned responses.
I was using 1004 firmware and then upgraded to 1005, unfortunately there was not any improvement.
However, Samsung support gave me access to v1301...a big jump in version numbers and now this is on the support websites to download as a USB update. (I am not sure if it is available via auto updates as I had upgraded them all manually as at the time, the auto update process didn't have the new firmware).
I can say that this version 1301 has "improved" but unfortunately not eliminated the screen blanking issue. This is very disappointing, but that being said it is happening a lot less these days once I have upgraded to this firmware.
So if you are running on anything less than 1301 and have this issue, I suggest you upgrade to the new version. You won't regret it. I have contacted support again, to find out if they are still going to continue looking into this problem. [I have also indicated that I have another problem with the Settings - Number - Color button on the remote, and that my remote eventually stops responding to my monitor - oh well will have to wait for that to be fixed.]
Anyway back to the monitor problem. I only seem to have the problem with Display Port. (Don't matter what frequency as it still occurs - FYI I operate the monitor at 120Hz. But tried 60Hz and 240Hz and still same issues. However, if I use HDMI I don't have any issues at all. I am using a NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super; using G-Sync Compatible/Adaptive Sync.
I have this monitor (as well as a G6) connected to my main PC using Display Port and then a work PC connected via HDMI. I am mainly on HDMI during the day and have NEVER had the issue with HDMI on the G8. However, when using Display Port, the problem still exists. (BTW the G6 has never missed a beat - so if you only use one computer connected to the monitor I will suggest you change your cable to HDMI. But if you are like me that use two computers connected up, the one using Display Port will probably still have an issue.
Do other people still have this issue with the screen going randomly black for about 1-2 sec from time to time? What Frequency (Refresh Rate) are you using?
Thanks
Neal

Monitors and MemoryHello, Would like to report that using my amd integrated graphic of my cpu the random black flickering is gone. So this could very likely be a Nvidia driver issue.

Monitors and MemoryHello, I had the same issue on my odyssey oled g8 34" and it seems to have gone away after switching to an HDMI lead. I'm also using an RTX NVIDIA graphics card, so this should be an issue from their end mostly.

Monitors and MemoryHello, had the same problem with 3080, swaped to 7900xtx and now it's gone for sure. Used the same dispaly port cable in bith cases. The problem really is with Nvidia cards.

Monitors and MemoryThanks for the confirmation. Would like to add that I used my rog Ally docked to monitor to test this theory and it worked flawlessly it's 100% Nvidia drivers that are at fault.

Monitors and MemoryJust chiming in to report same problem as each of you. Tried all the "possible fixes" as reported here and on Reddit, no dice.

Monitors and MemoryI am also experiencing these issues with a G80SD and an eVGA NVidia 3070Ti on the latest "GameReady" drivers (572.16) on Win10 Pro x64.. DisplayPort on both ends of a premium cable.
I see all these mentions of the refresh, so I'm going to try turning off G-Sync VRR and just run at the stock 240Hz for a bit and see how it goes.
Also, I just got a notice today for a firmware update request to go from 1301 to 1313
(Any Star Wars fans out there leaking a tear for the 1313?)
EDIT: The firmware was specifically 1313.2, as appeared after the update was complete.

Monitors and MemoryInteresting. I will install the latest firmware from Samsung although doubt that will fix the issue given that Samsung have already reported that it is a Nvidia issue. Also I got a response from Samsung today, he said "Unfortunately no updates from Nvidia. My HQ counterpart has been chasing this with our R&D team who raised this to them but have not had any feedback"
So unfortunately things are happening slowing between Samsung and Nvidia. I am sure Samsung want this problem fixed as it is impacting every user that has a G8 with a Nvidia card; that is a big slice of the PC population.
Anyway, I am now going to try and chase up Nvidia. Here are two links that talk about how to raise an issue and also how to collect logs for displays issues (flicker/black screen/missing display modes)... its interesting that there is a whole KB article on Nvidia's site about these types of problems (last updated 16/07/24)
Here are two links to Nvidia -
This is the blank screen and how to get logs from your Nvidia card
for everyone on this thread I would suggest you all do this and send in reports to Nvidia using your logs! The more the better.
And the other link - how to provide feedback to Nvidia
BTW, I also have another problem with the G8 and Nvidia, not related to the black screen but when I play Doom Eternal I get half of the screen displayed with different contrast/brightness (eg. screen split in the middle, left and right halves don't match in colour). I read online that it was to do with multiple monitors (but I have disabled my second monitor and it still does it) - Does anyone else have any other issues with their G8 such as what I just mentioned? Just curious. (and FYI it does not affect other monitors!) - but if I use HDR then the problem goes away. So it is another Nvidia driver issue (with older drivers I didn't have this issue so it is a new problem with Nvidia drivers).
