Got the T7 shield and set it up on my laptop first and then tried to connect to my note 9 and it wouldn't recognize it. I figured it out! For me i set up the security on my laptop first, with the password through the pssd app and it wouldn't recognize on my phone, the drive wouldn't even light up. So I disabled the password and security on my laptop and connected it to my phone and it worked! Then I set up the security and password on my phone and connected it to the laptop and it worked there as well.
Tl;dr: If you set up security and password on computer before connecting to phone, disable it. Then set up the security and password on your phone first.
Also if you have the T7 you need the PSSD 1.0 app not the other one.
