QLED and The Frame TVs

Hi, I’m looking for a smaller TV (43 inches or preferably even smaller) that has an ATSC 3.0 (NextGen TV) tuner and, most importantly, supports displaying NextGen Broadcast Apps as a live TV overlay, like the one on channel KATU 2-1 shown here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/kF4iSSDKDhi9Sr6q6

I have no idea which model to choose.

Thanks so much for your help!

Best regards, Petr

Hi @meself ,

Thank you for your response!

Do you know if all models listed here—Best Buy Q60 QLED TVs—support it? Specifically, would the 32" or 43" models work? Or do you happen to know any specific model that supports it, so I can avoid making a mistake when placing the order?

We are broadcast app developers, and I recently tested the following set-top boxes (tuners):

  • ADTH (Tolka-SL3000)
  • ZINWELL (ZAT-6000 / ohm_cxd6821)
  • VBox (VBox XTi 4174)

All of them performed reasonably well, as also noted in this AVS Forum discussion.

However, finding reliable information about device compatibility is quite challenging. The rollout of ATSC 3.0 has been slow, and only a handful of TVs include ATSC 3.0 tuners—let alone proper Broadcast App support. I assume this is partly because the FCC has not set a firm deadline for the ATSC 1.0 sunset. Instead, they require that “the programming aired on a Next Gen TV station’s ATSC 1.0 should be ‘substantially similar’ to that of the primary video programming stream on the ATSC 3.0 channel” at least until July 17, 2027 (source).

Looking forward to your advice!

Best regards,
Petr

@meself After online chat with Samsung Expert (whatever that means), some Googling, seeing some reviews and cross-check with ChatGPT I ordered https://www.samsung.com/us/televisions-home-theater/tvs/oled-tvs/55-class-oled-s90d-qn55s90dafxza/ Once it will arrive and I will test it I will update you with the result. It surely has the ATSC 3.0 tuner, but that's all I was able to find.

@meself QN55S90DAFXZA  was a lost money. It is ATSC 1.0. This is really frustrating. And yes it is written here https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/s90d-s90dd-oled-qd-oled with a small letters "Updated May 02, 2024: Clarified that the TV doesn’t support ATSC 3.0 in the Inputs Specifications section of this review."

It seems Samsung does not care about ATSC 3.0 at all as only models that supports it are as I understand now Neo QLED 8K Series.

OMG
