If you're considering buying a new Frame TV and use an external HDMI device (Xbox, Playstation, Apple TV, Nintendo Switch, Chromecast, etc...) the TV will not work correctly with them. Be warned.

Firmware 1520 update has broken CEC for Samsung Frame 2022 models (and possibly more). This means that Frame TVs returning to Art mode after using a device is functionally broken.

Devices that should be powering off the TV via CEC are no longer recognized by the Samsung TV, there are multiple threads about this but they tend to specifically mention devices (Apple TV, Chromecast, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PS5, etc...).

The common denominator here is that ALL CEC power off events for ALL devices are now broken with the latest firmware update, they used to function correctly before this update.

If you hard power cycle the TV, the very first CEC power off event will work correctly, but then it never functions correctly again. Instead of powering the TV down or returning to Art Mode (whichever you have configured) the TV now sits in "Check device power" screen. This effectively breaks the entire functionality and purpose of having a Frame TV...which is that it returns to Art mode after you're done with whatever you're doing.

Samsung techs are blaming Microsoft, Apple, Google, Nintendo, and Sony and telling people to call their tech support. The common denominator here is Samsung, not every other device manufacturer.

The latest firmware update has broken Samsung Frame TVs, and there is no way to downgrade firmware. We all just get to wait while Samsung is blaming everyone else and not working on a fix. The tech that I spoke to was super nice, but told me that "my scenario is very uncommon" and that their firmware is not broken. This is objectively not true. This firmware update is broken. Please fix it, please let me downgrade.

In the meantime, hopefully your device supports power-down and volume controls via IR. This isn't a long term solution though. Samsung needs to acknowledge this and roll back or hotfix whatever change broke this.

Exact same thing is occurring for me. Following this thread in hopes there comes a solution. Iā€™ve had my Frame TV for a year now and all of a sudden I can no longer turn off my TV via CEC. If I unplug my tv and plug it back it, the I will be able to turn off the TV 1 single time using CEC. After that it does not work. Please fix!!!

Updated to 1602 yesterday, and it seems to have fixed my issue.

At this point, I don't even care if ATV can't just power down and switch to Art Mode automatically. I just want the darn thing to STAY in Art Mode and not just exit on its own. It just keeps leaving Art mode and switching to either HDMI or the No connection screen when you disable the Samsung TV app. It just keeps doing that. Right now the thing is always turned OFF unless I'm actually in the room, then its on so I can manually put it back in art mode up to 10x when it does the stupid thing. So yeah this expensive ART TV is usually TURNED OFF because of this Firmware. The programers that worked on this needs to be removed from the TEAM and assigned to jr level. What a messs.

I think Iā€™ve figured it out, Iā€™ve got The Frame working again with my Apple TV!

First, go into your Samsung TV settings, Input Device Managerā€” and TURN OFF Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC).

Then, go into your Apple TV 4K, go into Settings>Remotes and Devices>Home Cinema Controlā€”and for the Option that reads ā€˜Turn On Your TV With Your Remoteā€™ā€” Select ā€˜ONā€™

Exit Settings and press and hold the power button of your Apple TV, and youā€™ll find that brings the Samsung The Frame TV back to wallpaper, and turns off your Apple TV.

Thats a temporary fix that many have done already. Give it some time and it will start to fail again. Usually within a day or two.

I think the temporary fix people were talking about was a hard reset. This is different.

Iā€™ll keep monitoring, but so far it seems pretty stable. You just have to make sure that the Apple TV is actively selected as the main input in the Samsung.

It happens once in a while, I confirm. Usually after the TV has been to SLEEP for a long time (with no ART displayed), it is as if there had been a powercycle and it works ONCE as usual. Then if you turn the TV on and try to turn it off with the Apple TV remote, the anomaly returns necessarily.

Hello,

Iā€™m in France and Iā€™m not able to update from 1430 to 1520 on my TQ55LS03.

maybe Samsung has blocked the auto update process.

let me know if I can help by extracting the firmware or anything else.

all is working in 1430 and my Apple TV 4K + sonos arc

This acts pretty inconsistently. Most of the time for me it goes to fully power off the TV and trying to turn the TV back on just to get to art mode confuses it and it powers back off until it sense the AppleTV going on.
