My Samsung Messages app keeps closing. I've restarted my phone multiple times. I've gone to Settings > App Settings > Messages > Storage and hit Clear cache and Clear data. When I do this, the space used for cache and data go down to 0, but then immediately go back up to the original storage amounts when I reopen Messages.
I found a previous conversation about Messages crashing in Dec 2023 and tried following the instructions but when I held down the power button and volume up with the phone turned off, the phone restarted as normal, even though I held them down until after the Samsung logo disappeared.
If I can't fix it, can I install a different app for
My Google storage is 94% full. Could that be connected?

I have a question, and forgive my ignorance...I know enough to get by but tech savvy I am not. So we all seemed to have the same issue with the messages/Google meet thing. My question is how does one come up with that solution? In 1000 years I'd never come up with that. I tried everything else to nauseum short of throwing my phone against the wall. So out of all the fixes and all the apps, how does one come to that conclusion?

Same here, when I click on an existing thread it crashes, BUT if I start a new message Nad search for the recipient, it allows me to type and send new messages in the existing chain
I found that Google Meet caused my SMS problem... I don't know how it got turned on, but I disabled it and it worked. Just saw the note on the forum about it after I fixed it...
Disable Google Meets and messages will start working again
Open App Drawer
search for Meets
Long Press on it and select Disable
