I got this message

Verizon Msg: Samsung Messages will no longer support RCS after 1.6.2025. Switch to Google Messages to maintain the more robust messaging you're used to."  and was wondering what it means?

I would recommend making the switch from Samsung Messages to Google Messages. RCS is the next generation and brings lots of improvements. You'll only be able to take advantage of this is you use Google Messages. You may be able to get by for now but when you go to get a new phone in the future you may be forced at that time anyways. You'll get features like delivery receipts, higher resolution video and images and more.

Once you make the switch to Google Messages tap on Messages Settings and then tap RCS chats. You will be able confirm or turn on RCS. But the app must be set as your default first. See the instructions from Samsung to do that.

Samsung provides a page on how to make the switch.

Thank you for a response that actually gives guidance. Is the icon in the playstore two speech bubbles overlaid? That is what I downloaded and made default. Next, how do you get to Messages Settings. (I feel sooooo old.) When I open my phone settings and go to apps, then messages, I cannot find anything that says RCS. Thank you so much.

To get to message settings in Google Messages, just tap on your profile upper right corner.
Scroll down to settings, open it, the very first thing you will see is CHATS, turn ot on.

I tried google messaging in the past with my Android phone.

I was unable to send photos  to my daughter's IPhone.  I changed back to the Samsung messaging . Will this still be an issue, or has it been resolved?

I just received this same text and am also totally confused.

My question is: are my texts that are currently on my phone going to disappear?  I need many for proof of some business chats and information that I have conducted.

This seems so arbitrary and without explanation.  The world and technology has gone mad. I just want a phone to.work.properly, my laptop to work and be left alone by outside AI nonsense and corporate greed!

So... I have the Galaxy S23 and am using their basic app. Do I have to worry about this at all? I also just got the same message today and do not want to switch to google messages. I actually really like the samsung app over message+ which I used on my last phone because of the ability to bookmark text messages so you can find them easier later.

Same here. I don't like google messenger because I can't quickly switch between sending individually vs sending as a group text. The group message default setting is to send as a group text but sometimes you want to send same msgs to several people but you want them to receive it as individual text. The Google messenger does not have a button to choose how I want to send the msg. WHY???? If they are forcing us to change, at least have the same options. So frustrating!

Pleasevtake note that Google Messages and Messenger are two different things. There is no app named "Google Messenger".
