For the past few days, first thing in the morning after waking up, when I pick up my Samsung A53, the charging animation pops up for a few seconds and makes a sound, when nothing is plugged into the USB port.

While still unplugged, the charging animation and sound do not occur again at any other time of the day.

But it will happen again the next morning.

What could be causing this?

There is no debris in the USB port. Maybe it's static electricity from my hands, generated while I was asleep?

That is indeed very odd behavior, and I can certainly understand your confusion regarding it. If your phone or tablet is misbehaving, it's possible that a third-party app is causing the issue. To figure out what app is acting funny, you can use the Safe mode feature. In Safe mode, your device won't run any third-party apps. This allows you to easily identify and remove the app that may be causing the problem. Use this guide for Safe Mode: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00062983/

You can also try clearing your device's cache partition through recovery mode using these steps:

-Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby / Power key

-Once the Android Recovery screen comes up, release the buttons

-Use the Volume Down button until you are highlighting ‘Wipe cache partition’

-Press the Power button to select ‘Wipe cache partition’

-Use Volume Down to highlight Yes

-Press the Power button to confirm the action to clear the cache

-Wait for a second as the system wipes the cache

-Press the Power button again to reboot the device

If the above did not help, you can also try a factory reset. Make sure to back up everything you do not wish to lose using this guide first: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00060517/
