My screen flickers and goes blank when sunlight hits the view finder on the phone. In the house or shade it doesn't do that. I can even use a flash light and point it at the view finder and it flickers and the screen goes blank.

To resolve the symptoms you are experiencing give these steps a try:

1. Access Settings
2. Scroll down and tap Software update
3. Tap Download and install
4. Complete the software update wizard as prompted

To temporarily disable Adaptive brightness pending the software update:

1. Open the notification panel/status bar on the device by swiping down twice from the top of the device
2. Tap the arrow in the notification panel to view the Brightness option
3. Toggle Adaptive Brightness off
4. Adjust the brightness level to the appropriate level

I'm also having the exact same issue since the latest update in April

(was it perhaps UI 3.1 ? It would be nice if updates were more transparent about what is getting installed! )

I would contact a Samsung Experience Store or your Local Ubreakifix, https://www.ubreakifix.com/samsung , and have them give your device a look. This could be a Main Board that needs to be replaced. If either of these are not available near you I would suggest contacting 1-800-786-7864 and explaining your issue and mailing this device in for repair. This should be an in-warranty repair unless you have damage or have tripped the water sensors.

After the recent update, my s20 FE is now unusable in the daylight. It flickers and then goes black. As soon as you get out of the sun, it works fine. What's the deal? Not cool.. I've had this phone for not even 2 months.

Same problem here.  Temporary fix until the real fix is to disable adaptive brightness.

I'm having the same issue as well. Tried everything as far as deleting apps and restoring phone. Finally once I read the above reply I disabled the adaptive brightness and it started working normal again.

I also found that even with autobrightness turned off, if I maximized brightness manually it started to flicker again. outside, max brightness is necessary

I have the same exact issue, completely unusable outdoors now.  I hope Samsung fixes this sooner rather than later.
