Texts not coming to new phone but still going to old iPhone

I recently transferred my number from iPhone to Galaxy. I get calls OK but texts still go to old phone. How long does it take?

If text go to iMessage that will always be to the iPhone. I had to alert my iPhone using friends to use the Android accepted text app.
