Gallery/files apps crashing

Gallery app keeps crashing when I try to open it. The same is happening to my files app. If I try to access the gallery through settings or the app store, that app then starts to crash as well. clearing caches and restarting the device does not solve the issue.

I know exactly which pictures are the heic files...they were downloaded from a text from an Iphone today. Unfortunately, there is no way for me to access them because they are saved in my gallery...and the whole problem is that thee gallery app keeps crashing because of these pictures. Any suggestions?

Having the same issues after the big update the phone did on the 1st of October.  Still can not get the folder to stay open, keeps glitching out

Having the same issue. No .heic files in the gallery or on my phone anywhere, so that's not an issue for this sitch.
Files app is still working.
