What determines which notifications you see when you wake galaxy s22 plus

When I wake my Galaxy S22 plus, I see certain notifications. After the phone is awake and I check notifications there are usually a lot more.  Some of the notifications on waking stay there quite a while others fall off relatively quickly. What determines exactly which notifications you see when you first wake the phone?
