I love extra dim lowering my cars screen broghtness even more when I'm connected with android auto. In the last little while it stopped working this way, I and my friend have tried on our respective cars but it just doesn't work anymore. Did they add a toggle in a recent update that I can't find or is this functionality, that made driving at night so much easier on my eyes, just gone.

Does creating a routine like this do anything for you?1735470043774.jpg

I will try, but manually turning it on and off while connected changes my phone screen but not the car screen. Having it off or on when connecting doesn't change the car screen's behaviour either.

In the AA settings, do you have day/night mode set to automatic, or is it always in day mode? Settings/connected Devices/Android Auto. Scroll to the maps section and see if day/night mode for maps is on automatic. If not, tap it and select automatic. You can also change Google Maps navigation theme to auto in the navigation settings (in case you choose not to use AA, I don't know if it carries over to AA since AA has its own setting)

Thanks but I put it on automatic and the behaviour didn't change. It's not the day/night mode really, it's moreso a dark gray overlay from extra dim it lowers the car screen's effective brightness by a lot and lets you set a hotkey with the side buttons to turn it on and off.

Sounds like a car issue. The update might not be compatible with the car's software right now. I wouldn't notice something like that because I keep the nav screen bright. I don't let it go into night mode.  Anyway, I more often than not use the actual phone for navigation, because I am much too lazy to plug the USB cord in and most of my trips are too short to bother.  The phone screen and speaker work just fine, in addition to my watch giving me  the turn buzzes.

FWIW, I don't see an extra dim setting in my Android Auto, or any of the settings you mentioned. I have an A54 looks like it's running AA version 13.3.644654. Android 14 OneUI 6.1  I don't believe I ever saw that setting but, then, I wasn't looking for it either.

I wonder what the availability of extra dim is then, maybe only S phones have it. They put it in accessibility settings. Thanks for your ideas though.

Oh, i thought you were talking about a setting in AA. Let me check my accessibility, i thought I saw it there, but would that translate to your car's screen or are you saying you use AA unconnected to your car. In which case you should just be navigating with maps or waze.

Yes, I see it now in accessibility.

Android Auto is a product of Google, not Samsung.

This forum is a place where Samsung users attempt to help other Samsung users with their Samsung products and services.

It would be best to direct your inquiry to Google. You can find their contact information in app itself or by visiting the app's information in the Google Store.
