I've tried searching all over, and there seem to be absolutely no solutions for this anywhere. This is the second time an update has been forced, and it is likely going to make me late. I ended up being an hour late for work with the August update, as my phone wasn't "on" to play my alarms. I'm almost certain this will happen again with future updates. If I could even delay it by a few days I could have it install when I don't have work the next day, but that isn't even an option. This feels so scummy for them to be forcing updates like this.
It is a Samsung thing, not a carrier thing that automatic updates cannot be disabled. You can't even do it on unlocked devices. The best you might be able to do is to go to the software update settings and turn off auto download over wi-fi. That way, it won't download automatically when you are connected to wi-fi - it it's not downloaded, it cannot install. I do not believe that it downloads over mobile data, as the phone has no way of knowing your data plan limitations. I think they may make it deliberately obtuse so that the user does not know that that is disabling the auto-update. Now, I don't know for sure this is the way to disable it, as I keep it enabled because I don't mind the auto update, but I would think it has some merit. You have nothing to lose by trying it.
i wish i could even do that but i don't even have the option to turn off updates over wifi. the option is literally not there, the only button i see is to download and install now
