Galaxy S24Hi All
I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.
Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.
Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings. I use AOD to display as a bedside clock, with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! 🙂

Galaxy S24The S24 Ultra screen compared to my Flip5 is nowhere near as vibrant or bright. I used Lux Light Meter Pro from the app store to compare max brightness and the Flip5 is way brighter. The S24 is supposed to be the best and brightest screen and seems to be opposite.

Galaxy S24Hi Locoblade.
I'm also facing the same issue. However, I think I have finally found the solution. For the black looking greyish, go to developer options in settings. If you don't have it, go youtube to find tutorial on how to make it appear in settings. After that go, to the drawing section, under contrast, set High. Then as for the clouring, use vivid then head to advance settings; I've messed with the RGB and have found that Red- set it at 10(left being 1 and right being 12), Green- set it at 6, Blue- Set it at 10. This should make the colours look more accurate, at least according to my eyes they are. As for AOD, I've found no solutions, even with the Good lock app, the Clock Face feature. I tried setting a custom clock face with pictures and all like the old AOD. And when I off my screen, it goes back to showing my locking wallpaper dimmed down, which is the current new AOD on S24 series(One UI 6.1). So that one I can't help. Cause for me I like to on extra brightness for peak 2600 nits. But it do be draining alot more battery. But I like the look. So my problem comes when I can't adjust the brightness of my AOD or limit it to the older one but with an image cutout shown instead of the current full lock screen wallpaper dimmed down. I know can turn off but that leaves me with just the time, date, widgets and notification icons. No more personalised clock/photo. I hate that I don't have that option. But I'm liking the new AOD but since it drains battery like mad as it only drops to 24hz and not 1hz. I've checked using developer options. It drains alot of battery. I've done all the settings to save battery but still this 2 preference of mine, peak brightness and New AOD. I can't actually save much battery. But anyways, hope this comment finds you and solved most of your issue. The AOD problem has yet to be solved. Hopefully in One UI 6.2.

Galaxy S24I received my S24+ yesterday and it is the same dull and washed out screen. Looks like they forgot to turn on vivid screen option in settings. Or at least I hope it is that easy to fix as a settings tweak. Otherwise, if it's a deeper screen quality issue, I'm returning it in a week as I believe the return window is 14 days. My S20 screen looks much better and there's no point in spending more money on a new phone with worse quality screen. Big disappointment, Samsung! 😞

Galaxy S24I'm giving this S24U until Feb 8th, and if Samsung hasn't issued a fix for the display, it's going back. I literally cannot stand to look at it; it's like an artist's depiction of depression. I'll keep using my S22U until a fix is reported and won't be brokenhearted if I need to keep it for another year, just annoyed.

Galaxy S24Aod option for clock style is definitely missing and the default setting looks like **bleep** (colors the clock from a random color of the lock screen wallpaper)
EDIT: found a fix for that too, cannot even find the actual menu for it, I could just access it as a suggested menu:
Clicking on the clock allows to configure it and I could remove the auto setting on the color
Regarding the washed out color disabling "Enhanced Comfort" fixed it for me.
Also there is an option to avoid dimming the wallpaper when dark mode is on that helps under "Wallpaper and style" category
