Galaxy S24Hi All
I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.
Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.
Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings. I use AOD to display as a bedside clock, with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! š

Galaxy S24To those who are saying this is no big deal: would you buy a Samsung TV with a washed out display?

Galaxy S24Play a HDR YouTube video on the S24. They are not washed out.
I always turn off Vivid on my Samsung phones as it looks awful and don't mind how it looks on my S24.

Galaxy S24ā
It is so disappointing to see how the Samsung community manager @SamsungJustin edited his initial message. Now, the message is that nothing is wrong with the display as it has been "carefully tuned". To my point of view this message is clear, meaning do not expect a software update to improve the vivid mode calibration any time soon. I will return my s24 Ultra.

Galaxy S24This is not right. i believe still there's a software issue. and none of every of thems give the right answer. some say they're aware of the issue a fix is comming.. some other rep say. its carefully tuned i doubt this one, this probably goin to be my last samsung product for a long time... cause in my case i bought the phone with carrier and i doubt its goin to be an easy return without fight. this screen supposedly carefully tuned. is a real joke that's a downgrade imo. also can see the weird software acting if you go to your gallery take a vibran colorfull picture and tape the tree ||| on your screen and you can clearly see there's something going on. i believe this is software and this is not intended.

Galaxy S24I got angry about this because the Display is not accurate and is supposed to Track gamma 2.2
The Natural mode loses saturation Due to raising gamma from 2.2 to 1.8

Galaxy S24I am very disappointed with the new display. This phone is extremely expensive and it is disheartening to see that the display has been downgraded. I am in the process of trading in my S22 ultra and as I compare the two phones, I feel like the old phone that I am trading in is a better phone than the new S24 Ultra. The new display is washed out and lacking in color contrast. I certainly hope Samsung can address this and provide an improved Vivid display with a software update. Clearly many customers are disappointed with the current display setting.

Galaxy S24The most discussed and frustrated part on S24 Ultra is that display colors seems to be dull. The lack of vibrant colors is clearly visible, even when compared with my S21 Ultra. Even many people said that there S10+ display colors looks much better than S24 Ultra.
Some have suggested few solutions that improved it a bit, but for most of us those solutions didn't work or not improved it to a level where it's noticed.
Initially Samsung team acknowledged that they are looking into it and a software update might fix it. But now, they have changed their stance and saying that users have to use various display options available in the settings to adjust the colors to their liking. Here's the link to that reply (solution as per Samsung) - https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S24/S24-colors-washed-out-and-AOD-missing-options/m-p/279...
Being a Samsung ecosystem owner (Buds 2 Pro, Watch 5, S21 Ultra), this is not acceptable to me, and I'm sure it won't be acceptable to many others. I am returning my S24 Ultra. This is the only way to let Samsung listen to this issue and resolve it in an acceptable way. We can only make them listen via our wallets.

Galaxy S24It is so disappointing to see how the Samsung community manager @SamsungJustin edited his initial message on a different community post. Now, the message is that nothing is wrong with the display as it has been "carefully tuned". In addition, see the attached response from Samsung customer support. I will return my s24 Ultra.
