Galaxy S24Hi All
I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.
Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.
Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings. I use AOD to display as a bedside clock, with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! 🙂

Galaxy S24Just upgraded my s22+ and my dad's s10+ to the s24+, as well as my mom's note 10+ to the s24 ultra: and all 3 of us noticed the displays to be lackluster, duller, and maybe even dimmer with adaptive brightness turned on. Brightness is better after adjusting manually and perhaps adaptive will learn over time, but wow these colors are washed out. My parents are pushing 75 and even they noticed immediately! We will give it a few days but then we are returning all 3 if there's no official statement of a pending update to fix this from Samsung.
WAKE UP! You're about to have thousands and thousands of returns on your hands!

Galaxy S24No one knows the true answer. There are forum threads, Reddit posts, Twitter/X, YouTube videos, and media publications, all with different stories. Samsung executives have yet to confirm or deny the issue.
The fact is, not only will this affect their revenue based on the large number of returns, but the miscommunication and terrible handling of the issue will affect their reputation.
In the main interface, icons, and apps, it looks washed out compared to my old unit. But in HDR mode—photos, videos, and streams or HDR applications—the color looks absolutely phenomenal. My best guess, although I'm no screen techie, is a misconfiguration of the SDR color gamut or perhaps an incorrect gamma value in SDR mode.

Galaxy S24 Samsung needs to make an "OFFICIAL" statement on this.
Right now, I am guessing that this really is a intentional change. Again, guessing that they are waiting on making an official statement until the 15 day return period has expired for a lot of purchasers. I will give them a couple more days and then back it goes and I will start considering other options. They should let the actual users of the device determine what the their device should display, considering how the past displays have looked.

Galaxy S24So guys and girls.. I am also seriously considering returning my S24U because of the dull colours.
Now i have the S22 Ultra, Exynos that works great. But I will buy the S23 Ultra if I return the S24U.
My fear: Do you think that the One UI 6.1 update will also break Vivid mode on the S23 Ultra?

Galaxy S24I received the S24+ some days ago, and I can confirm the display looks dull and uninspired in Vivid mode (and even worse in Natural mode, of course, even if Vivid mode's change is close to imperceptible. At first I was elated to get my new phone, but almost immediately I noticed the dull display, lacking in depth and contrast and vibrancy. I don't care about ultra-bright options, and even the high res option although nice can't make up for the dull, washed out colors. I've had Samsungs since the Pebble and this just plain sucks.
We demand an official assessment and statement by Samsung -- no, not by a rep in Spain or on a forum thread. If this change to Vivid mode is intentional, I will be returning this phone and going with an iPhone. And I hate Apple. Even if this change was intentional, make it OPTIONAL, and add the original Vivid mode option and call it Vivid Legacy or whatever. The current Vivid mode should be made an option, it's just a color profile anyway. So expand the options, leave the modes that have always been part of the Galaxy displays, and add the new Vivid mode as an additional option.
Samsung can do one of 2 things here: 1) restore the function everyone is conditioned to prefer and like, or 2) come in chain-of-command and push this on the "peasants" but as you can see the blowback is in full effect. Even if your change is "intentional," it is an unwelcome change. And NO ONE is going to complain to have the new "Vivid" as an *option*, as long as you also provide the classic Vivid option. It is about OPTIONS. If you provide the option, you don't have to "eat" your unwelcome color mode, it can stay. But provide the original Vivid mode alongside and then see how 95% of users would use that. This is simple, Samsung, don't try to be right and ram it down people's throats because many people are *this close* to returning the S24.

Galaxy S24Well after thinking, and looking how many people has issue with thier display outside of the vivid situation that may not be resolved, i'm going to try to return my s24 ultra with my carrier today afterall the overall phone is great beside this non sense dull display and others issue i'm out of this drama. i'll wait and may re-order a new one maybe in couples months i'll stick with my s22 ultra. but i have low hopes that i may endup paying a restock fee. or usage fee but i'll fight my point with a deceptive device with a lot of issue despicite mine has no grain/distortion just not an happy customer i guess. i'm done. best of luck to everyone go throught the same deal . have a wonderfull day peep.
